Adam works and lives in New York City.
Born and raised in Northeast New Jersey, he was inspired to make images by his grandfather, Joseph Hernandez, a Puerto Rican immigrant and family archivist.
He takes a simple approach to photography, looking to capture moments in camera, with minimal post processing.
As a Puerto Rican immigrant coming from absolute poverty, acceptance was not a privilege my grandfather enjoyed. He carried that weight, the expectation to be more but the burden of not being enough. With that came a careful curation of his image, both in masking his heritage and adopting an a presumed “Americanness.”
He was a talented artist who understood the power of sight, and I owe him a great deal. He brought us so much joy and laughter.
